Welcome to my counseling practice! As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, I specialize in supporting children, teens, and families through a compassionate, Person-Centered approach. With a Master’s in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and training in various therapeutic techniques, including play therapy and mindfulness, I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment tailored to each individual's unique needs., we can navigate challenges and foster growth in a supportive and understanding setting.

I specialize in running life skills and mindfulness groups for teens, ensuring they develop essential skills for their personal growth My approach is rooted in empathy and understanding, recognizing that each situation is unique. Together, we will create a personalized path to success that meets the needs of your family.

With a deep-rooted passion for supporting and empowering others, Takeko “Keko” Gwynn approaches her work in social services with both purpose and heart. Drawing on her personal journey and professional training, Keko is devoted to guiding individuals and families through life’s challenges with empathy, clarity, and resilience. She is known for her ability to break through emotional barriers and advocate fiercely for those she serves. Whether working quietly behind the scenes or leading with compassion, Keko remains committed to helping others Heal, Learn, and Grow. Keko is open to working with children, adolescents, teens, adults, and families. She is currently under the clinical supervision of Daniel Brooks, LCSW, and accepts both Medicaid and self-pay clients.

of experience across clinical, educational, corporate, and residential settings. Known for her innovative, strengths-based approach, she specializes in developing and implementing programs that promote holistic well-being, engagement, and measurable outcomes. Mitzi’s work spans direct service, program management, and consultation, with a strong focus on fostering resilience and empowering individuals of all ages and abilities.

Jacklyn Cargill Meyer
Healing happens when you can bring your whole self – your experiences, your identity, and your feelings – into a space where you feel seen, supported, and valued.

Jacklyn specializes in affirming, client-centered therapy with a compassionate, practical approach rooted in evidence-based care. She offers individual counseling (for adolescents and adults) and couples counseling, and has experience with neurodivergent populations, LGBTQIA+ community, and trauma. Jacklyn is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients learn to process their trauma and move past stuck points of anxiety and fear. She provides Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), supporting clients as they learn tools to reduce anxiety, break free from cycles of compulsions, and live more fully. She uses her training in the Gottman Method (level 2) to help partners deepen connection and build the relationships they want and deserve. Jacklyn is a Resident in Counseling (VA) under the supervision of Latasha Saul, LPC, and Megan Green, MA, LPC, LCPC. She has a master’s in psychology from West Texas A&M University and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Capella University.

Avalee is a compassionate therapist who supports children, adolescents, and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, as well as children and teens on the Autism Spectrum. She provides neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based care and is passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where clients can grow and thrive.

Using play-based, relationship-centered approaches, Avalee helps children build emotional regulation, communication, and social-emotional skills. She works with concerns including anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, and life transitions, while partnering closely with caregivers to support the whole family.

Avalee is dedicated to ongoing learning and evidence-based practice, meeting each client where they are and helping them build confidence, resilience, and meaningful coping skills.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE FIRST SESSION?
You will be given the opportunity to talk in detail about your child, their presenting concerns, their strengths, as well as what you hope for your child to get out of therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counseling process.

DOES PLAYFUL PATHWAYS ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?
Playful Pathways accepts Anthem, Aetna, United Healthcare, Humana, Sentara and Medicaid. Please contact your insurance carrier prior to your first appointment to ensure Playful Pathways is in-network.

HOW MUCH IS A
SESSION FEE?
Self pay rates are $140 for the first session and $130 after. All payment is required at the time of services. We accept cash, check and credit card. You can ask your insurance provider about Out of Network claims and reimbursement.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?
Sessions last between 45-60 minutes. Session length may vary depending on your child's specific needs.

WHAT IS PLAY THERAPY, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Play therapy uses toys, art, and activities to help children express emotions and process experiences in a way that feels natural and safe.

CAN PARENTS BE INVOLVED IN THERAPY?
Absolutely. We encourage family collaboration and provide regular updates, tools, and strategies to support your child at home.
